Volunteer opportunities with the Paul E. & Helen S. Meyer Foundation are currently only available through our Patient Advocacy Program.
We so admire everyone’s hearts to serve their communities and the vulnerable among them. Because we are dealing with clients’ medical and personal information, volunteer positions are highly specialized and very structured, particularly any volunteer Advocate positions. We adhere to local, state, and federal laws as much as they pertain to us and our mission, as well as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) regulations. Volunteers must agree to undergo extensive background checking and sign confidentiality and other documents that declare their intentions to abide by Foundation policies and the laws that govern us.
Specific volunteer roles that are available are:
Patient/Caregiver Advocate - should show understanding of common medical procedures and terminology and be able to translate to patients and caregivers
Insurance Advocate - should demonstrate knowledge of insurance procedures and documents and be able to translate to patients and caregivers
Billing Advocate - should be knowledgeable about basic medical billing and common errors or situations that can arise in billing departments
Volunteer Coordinator - should have a background in volunteering, coordinating schedules, accommodating volunteers and meeting Foundation goals
Administrative Assistance - there are several positions available within our administration, including clerical, executive assistance, and marketing internships
While not all positions deal directly with clients, they are still bound by the Foundation’s policies and any applicable laws.
